Rotorua 2018 - Collision Repair Assocation

It is with great pleasure that the Central North Island Branch has been chosen to host the 2018 New Zealand Collision Repair Association 105th annual conference which will be held from Friday 12th April to Saturday 14th April 2018 at the Energy Events Centre, Rotorua.

The Energy Events Centre is positioned at the edge of Lake Rotorua enjoying a unique location within the picturesque Government Gardens. This venue is also within easy walking distance of various accommodation and the main shopping area.

As usual the programme has been designed with a view to maximising opportunities exhibitors have with the delegates. Trade stand opportunities are limited and will receive maximum exposure through a series of events in the Exhibitors area.

Following tradition, the theme for 2018 in Rotorua, is 'Smells like change'. The conference programme has been designed to give all delegates the opportunity to embrace the upcoming changes that our industry will be facing.

David Crawford

David took up the role of CEO of the MIA in February 2013.  The Motor Industry Association represents the interests of the official New Zealand distributors for new cars, trucks and motorbikes.  It is the voice of the new vehicle industry, set up to provide a unified point of view and drive progress on issues that concern the sector, such as vehicle safety, low emissions vehicles, vehicle exhaust emissions, fuel standards, consumer standards etc.

David is a graduate of Massey University and has worked in both the private and government sectors with over 20 years in government, including several years as General Manager Land Transport Safety and Environment at the Ministry of Transport.

David will be discussing the latest fleet vehicle design trends and how these might affect the repair industry. There will be more change in the new vehicle space over the next 10 years than there has been over the last 60 years, especially with the trend to vehicles being connected and increasing rates of vehicle autonomy. Will this lead to fewer accidents and repair demand?

He challenges individuals, teams, organisations and entire supply chains to achieve their true potential and take the stress out of running their business by making the complex and erratic, simple and consistent.

IS YOUR BUSINESS FIT FOR THE FUTURE?

Whether you have just opened the doors, are in full on mode or are looking for the exit door, the challenges facing the modern bodyshop owner are multiple and more complex than they have ever been before. If you are building something for the future - what are the right decisions to ensure the business flourishes in the next ten, twenty or thirty years? Or if we just want to get out, is your bodyshop saleable?

Who are the right customers? What about consolidation? Do I invest in equipment or people?

Before I look for the answers, do I even know what the right questions are?

Lance Burdett

Specialist speaker in negotiation, communications, resilience and safety.

With over 20 years of policing experience, 13 of those as a crisis negotiator, Lance combines advanced communication techniques, safety awareness, and personal resilience support practices for everyday use to keep ourselves safe.

Following a stint as the Commander of the Police Emergency call centre where he further honed his communication skills, Lance developed and delivered coaching sessions on managing difficult people and on reducing personal stress to varied audiences.

Liam Malone

Liam Malone is the world number one in the sport of blade running.

In 2014 he turned his life around after hitting rock bottom while at university. He went on to win two gold medals and a silver medal at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. He also broke the previous Paralympic records held by Oscar Pistorius. His times on the track make him New Zealand’s second fastest 400m sprinter ever – legs or not.

Liam was born without fibular bones. This resulted in both of his feet being amputated when he was 18 months old. Liam enjoys arguing against the notion that he is disabled both figuratively and through his actions.

At the age of 12 his mother was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer. She battled the disease for 6 years before passing away when Liam was 18.

Liam studied at the University of Victoria while training for the Paralympic Games. Liam finished his studies in 2016 gaining a Bachelor of Commerce degree majoring in Marketing and International Business.

Liam’s awards include the New Zealand Order of Merit for Services to Athletics, Disabled Sportsperson of the Year at the 54th Halberg Awards, the Key to the City of Nelson, M2 New Zealand man of the year and winner of the Sovereign Insurance ‘Make a Difference’ startup competition in 2015.

Although a professional athlete, Liam insists his real interests lie outside the world of sport. He has a passion for technology, innovation, business and start-ups. He also has his eye on the entertainment industry and will look to create a career in acting over the next decade.
